Erie Mass Shooting Leaves Nine Dead Including Suspect on Perry St

A mass shooting in a residential area of Erie, Pennsylvania, resulted in nine fatalities, including two children and the suspected gunman, local law enforcement confirmed on Saturday morning. Emergency crews responded to the scene late Friday afternoon following reports of gunfire in the neighborhood.

Initial Emergency Calls and Scene Overview

Authorities were called to the vicinity of Perry Street at approximately 5 p.m. on Friday. Witnesses reported observing an armed man firing shots outdoors before proceeding into a nearby home. Upon arrival, officers discovered two women deceased in the street outside the residence.

Upon entering the dwelling, law enforcement officers located several additional victims who were pronounced dead. The suspect was also found deceased inside the residence from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. In total, nine people died during the incident, including eight victims and the perpetrator.

Police Response Tactics and Public Safety Status

In a Saturday morning update, police clarified the timeline of events, confirming that all deaths occurred prior to officers arriving on the scene. Authorities emphasized that no additional shots were fired after police units established a perimeter.

Responders clarified that loud sounds heard during the tactical entry were flash-bang devices deployed by emergency units as part of their tactical response. Shortly after containing the location, municipal officials reassured the local community regarding public safety.

“Tonight, a terrible tragedy occurred near 7th and Perry Streets in Erie, resulting in multiple deaths,” stated the joint release from the City of Erie and Mayor Daria Devlin. “The shooter is deceased, and there is no ongoing threat or danger to the public at this time.”

Official Statements and Ongoing Investigation

Erie Police Chief Rick Lorah addressed the media, reflecting on the heavy impact of the incident on the local community while emphasizing that investigators are taking a careful approach to the investigation.

Chief Lorah stated that investigators are working diligently to reconstruct the exact sequence of events. He noted that law enforcement will refrain from discussing specific scene details or speculating on potential motives to avoid compromising the active investigation.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro offered state assistance to local authorities following communications with city leaders, extending support to the grief-stricken community. City officials scheduled a formal press briefing for Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. to share further updates with the public.
