Florida Plane Crash Claims Austin Tech Founder and Family Days After Milestone

The tech community and families are mourning the loss of nine individuals following a devastating aviation accident in Palm Beach County, Florida. Among the victims were Adam Robinson, a 45-year-old technology executive from Austin, Texas, alongside his wife, Helen Sharp, 40, and their two young children, Emma, 4, and Charlie, 2. The tragedy unfolded on a Sunday as the family and crew traveled aboard a private jet.

Final Moments and Business Milestones

The tragedy struck just as Robinson was celebrating a significant professional achievement. On the very day of the crash, the entrepreneur shared on LinkedIn that his platform, RB2B, had officially reached $10 million in annual recurring revenue. In his final post, he reflected on the milestone, noting the small team size involved in reaching the target, while also playfully debating a future business strategy with a colleague regarding whether to combine product lines.

Robinson served as the CEO and co-founder of Retention.com, an Austin-based marketing technology firm. He later expanded his ventures by launching RB2B, designed to help businesses identify potential website visitors, as well as MoltSets, a contact information provider. Colleagues across his companies remembered him as an outspoken and passionate leader who poured immense energy into his ventures.

The Flight and Ongoing Investigation

According to flight logs and incident reports, the Learjet 60 departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport carrying two crew members and seven passengers, with a destination of North Eleuthera in the Bahamas. Roughly at 35,000 feet, the flight crew reported encountering light clear ice and moderate turbulence, prompting a request to climb to 37,000 feet. Less than half a minute after receiving approval, the crew issued a mayday call indicating the aircraft had entered a descent.

Federal investigators examining the wreckage have indicated that weather conditions are a primary focus of the inquiry. Initial findings suggest the aircraft may have begun breaking apart before its impact in a residential Palm Beach County neighborhood. While the formal cause of the crash remains undetermined, federal authorities continue to piece together the final moments of the flight.

Remembering the Victims

In the wake of the disaster, joint statements from grieving relatives highlighted the deep warmth and generosity of the Robinson family. Loved ones described Adam and Helen as devoted parents who brought immense joy to those around them, noting that the loss would be deeply felt throughout both their personal circles and the broader technology sector.
